Run at Big White

December 15, 2014

Just letting everyone know that I have posted a new painting to dailypaintworks.com…..http://www.dailypaintworks.com/fineart/carolynn-doan/run-at-big-white/297507

In keeping with the season, I thought a painting of snow would be in order.  Hope you enjoy this take on a favourite family run at Big White Ski Resort.

Snow can be a challenge to paint.  It helps having been brought up on the prairies where one is surrounded with it for a good chunk of the year 🙂  That experience helped me to appreciate the non white of white snow.  Snow is full of reflected and refracted light and therefore colour.  When painting it, it is these colours that help to define the snow passages in what would otherwise be a blank white canvas.  The shadow shapes become all important and help bring drama to the piece.

Enjoy!  No snow here except for what I can see in my painting, ha…..that makes me thankful for today.
