Where Is Home?

I must admit right here and now that I am profoundly jealous of those beings who find themselves completely happy and content with where they come from and the place in which they now live.

My husband and I have spent the better part of our lives in search for the perfect place to call “home”. We have had the great good fortune to be able to travel and paint around the world but have yet to find that ‘perfect’ place.  The journey spent travelling to each of these amazing places is spent wondering if this might be the ‘place’ where we feel we ‘belong’….  To this date we have been unsuccessful.

The anxiety that surrounds this, ‘not belonging anywhere in particular’ is abating as time passes but that little niggle of wondering if such a place exists is still there.

I do believe that this feeling of not being content, not belonging is somewhat of a social issue and has been thus throughout history (hence exploration and colonization). I do also believe that the roots of this unrest run deep and most certainly have a spiritual connection, spirit being defined as :  the life-giving principle; breath of life;  life, will and consciousness thought of as existing apart from matter and yet as pervading all things.

I have been reminded of late about the statement “Wherever you go, there you are” taken from the book of the same name by Jon Kabat-Zinn.  I like this treatise, it speaks to me.  Jon Kabat-Zinn writes about living one’s life through mindfulness.

This could be the key for me…..Home is wherever the mind settles at any given point in time.  Sound good?
